Don't be afraid of cruz. he will teach you what life is like on the mean streets and force you to understand that our only hope for a better world is our youth.
Dr. Cruz brings the fire and passion of an educator, activist, poet, father, and husband all in one. One may call this a book of poems but that doesn't quite do it justice. It is, in my opinion, a collection of love stories; for youth, community, familia, immigrants, education, history, and humanity as a whole. A powerful read that is more relevant than ever in our troubled times and a must read in my classroom library.

Cesar's words get to the heart of the lived reality of people of color today. Not only does this body of work resonate with all those at the receiving end of war, racism and poverty, but it also speaks to all those searching for some clarity on the many issues plaguing our society. A great tool for educators, writers, artists and activists and a must read for those who can appreciate the art and activism of poetry.
While walking through Borders, I saw this book on the shelves and having heard Cesar Cruz speak I thought I would pick it up. And after reading this book, I can honestly say (being white) that I feel it was written for minorities. It talks about his fight against the white "empire" and how there is no such thing as "illegal immigration". His views on immigration are that anyone should be able to come to America for a better life. Unfortunately, after hearing him speak and reading his book he sounds like a conspiracist to me, and I think that he doesn't understand how complex the whole immigration system is. If you just look at the title, "Revenge of the Illegal Alien" it already comes off as America has wronged him as a whole.I think Cesar Cruz is an amazing speaker, and an amazing writer, he just needs to find a topic that he can write about that makes sense.
