I've had my copy of the TDNT for more than thirty years and I consider it my most valuable reference work when it comes to studying the Greek NT. The TDNT includes extensive entries for every word found in the Greek NT, and not only discusses in detail that word's usage in the NT but also in extra-biblical sources, such as the Septuagint, Judaism, the Church Fathers, and Greek philosophy. Volume 8 consists of entries for words beginning with Tau and Upsilon.If you're building your copy of the TDNT one or two volumes at a time, purchase Volume 10 as quickly as possible. Volume 10 contains several indexes, all of which are helpful in locating the discussion of the word you're looking for. Without Volume 10 the process of finding the relevant information will prove to be more difficult.

Not only do these entries discuss the use of the word in the Greek NT but also discuss the meaning of the word in the Septuagint, Judaism, the Church Fathers, and Greek philosophy. While it is true that some of the entries were written by theological liberals, whatever bias occurs is minimal, and the serious NT scholar is likely to be able to spot it when it does occur.Volume 8 consists of entries for words beginning with Tau and Upsilon. If you are building your set one volume at a time, I would suggest purchasing Volume 10 at the start, which is the index. This index contains extremely helpful indices on Greek words, Hebrew and Aramaic words, New Testament terms, etc. Having this index makes looking up a particular word easy, since the index lists the volume and page(s) where the word is discussed.
